I
Challenge 3. Account for the carbon emissions generated by the DGIM in its activity
Goal of the challenge
The objective of the third challenge is to determine which activities are the most carbon-generating and to be able to monitor them in such a way that the footprint is progressively reduced until the set objectives are reached
Challenge's description
The DGIM aims to achieve 0 carbon emissions in its operations by 2030, and to be completely neutral by 2050. The first step in this strategic objective is to detect and quantify its carbon footprint in order to adapt emission reduction protocols.
Currently, the DGIM has assessed its C footprint in scope 1 and 2 (direct and indirect activity of the DGIM) of 2021, with a total of 909tCO2/year, and aims to assess scope 3 , where the DGIM's suppliers of goods and services are included in the development of all its activity. Based on the knowledge of the carbon emissions of the different activities, it will be possible to define effective reduction and compensation actions.
Scope 3 is the most complex to make compatible because it encompasses all of the activity, direct and indirect, and requires the aggregation of a lot of information from various sources. Having this information correctly would allow Management to establish the most appropriate actions in each of the areas of carbon generation and, therefore, would be the most effective way to neutralize it.
