Challenge with Catalan museums
I
CALL 3: TO INCREASE THE VISIBILITY OF THE PUBLIC AND SOCIAL VALUE OF MUSEUMS
Goal of the challenge
The aim of this call is to find solutions focused on improving the online, media and/or social presence of Catalan museums, while also encouraging new collaborations with citizens and interested entities.
Challenge's description
Museums should be understood as services of public utility, as they are not only spaces for knowledge and leisure, but also for debate, promotion of critical thinking, inclusion, health and emotional well-being of people. Despite this, it is common to perceive that museums are elitist centers aimed mainly at a very specific type of public of medium-high economic and cultural level, to which groups of the elderly, schoolchildren or families can be added.
We must therefore work to bring museums closer to the rest of the publics which are difficult to reach right now. In other words, we want to spread the social value of museums and attract new audiences without exclusion. For achieving this goal, communication needs to be improved so all communities feel represented in museum collections, programs, and performances, and that this sense of belonging generates alliances and collaborations.
Thus, this call opens up the following main lines of work. You do not have to address all of them to participate in the Challenge:
- Increase the online presence of museums in an individual or collective manner.
- Identify emerging cultural trends and needs in society, taking into account the diversity of profiles that make it up.
- Encourage collaboration with social organizations to reach groups that do not visit museums.
- Encourage the active participation of citizens in the museum's programs and activities.
