CALL 3: ROAD ACCIDENT PREDICTION
Goal of the challenge
The aim of this call is to create a massive data system able to predict traffic accidents before they occur and thus be able to prevent them.
Challenge's description
Currently, the Traffic Division of Policia de la Generalitat – Mossos d’Esquadra (PG-ME) carries out studies and assessments of accidents of the different roads and has specific software to be able to do so. However, in order to improve traffic awareness and prevent accidents, it is necessary to have a traffic accident prediction system able to establish better surveillance strategies and tactics and aimed at combating the main risk factors through the advanced study of the current behavior of drivers. It is important to direct efforts towards the most vulnerable groups in mobility at all times, taking into account the main causes of accidents and the four basic axes involved in traffic accidents (speeding, drug use and alcohol when driving, distractions and passive safety elements).
Aware that both BigData and the integration of data from other sources and artificial intelligence can help prevent traffic accidents, the PG-ME proposes this call with the aim of finding a technological solution capable of predicting, according to current traffic data, when a collision may occur, so that certain types of accidents, the causes that can cause it and the vehicles that may be involved can be predicted.
Solutions submitted in this challenge should be able to integrate and assess various sources of information (such as data provided by traffic management centers, meteorological data, historical data, population and demographics, new trends in sustainable mobility, changes in the road network, etc.) in order to draw predictive conclusions, which will help in the efficient traffic management and accident prediction.
